The 25th anniversary of Wikipedia was celebrated with the support of Azersun Holding

“Azersun Holding” continues its projects aimed at preserving our native language and developing it, especially in the digital sphere.
Within the framework of these projects, the group of companies, together with the “Wikimedia Azerbaijan” User Group, organized an event called “Digital Encyclopedia of the Azerbaijani Language: #Wikipedia 25”.
The event, which was held in a panel discussion format, was attended by state officials, parliamentarians, the management team of “Azersun Holding”, members of the Azerbaijani Wikipedia community and the “Wikimedia Azerbaijan” User Group, and Barbara Klen, coordinator of the Wikimedia Foundation’s regional hub project for Central and Eastern Europe. The discussions focused on the enrichment of Wikipedia in Azerbaijani language and the importance of this platform in the era of artificial intelligence.
In her speech, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Wikimedia Azerbaijan” User Group, Aida Aslanova, stated that behind the 200 thousand articles in Wikipedia there is a large and dedicated community, and each article added is a valuable legacy for future generations. This community conveys Azerbaijani language, cultural heritage, and historical figures to the world through this platform in the Azerbaijani Wikipedia.
In her speech, Deputy General Director of Azersun Holding Nazim Guliyev stated that the Group of Companies has started implementing various projects in this direction in accordance with the recommendations and instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, regarding our native language. He also noted that within the framework of the implemented “vikisun.az” project, the company’s employees have added about 5 thousand encyclopedic articles to the Azerbaijani Wikipedia.
Rza Mammadov, Head of Public Relations Department of Azersun Holding, noted that for 35 years, the Group of Companies has been implementing social projects in various directions, while ensuring the country's food security: "This year, Azerbaijani language is our main direction in corporate social responsibility. Our goal is to support young people who have been posting articles on Wikipedia for years."
As part of the event, various awards and certificates of appreciation were presented to active members of the community. At the same time, the “Wikimedia Azerbaijan” User Group presented certificates of appreciation to Tahir Gozel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Azersun Holding, Farid Gayibov, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Aygun Aliyeva, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.
