The 11th National Selection Conference of the European Youth Parliament (EYP) in Azerbaijan was held on August 8-12 at the European Azerbaijan School, themed “Digital Skies, Boundless Horizons. The event was attended by 140-150 young people, aged 15-25, Yusuf Karimli, Co-Head Organizer of the Conference, said in his interview with AZERTAC.
He then added: “Our National Selection Conference served to develop the debate, leadership, research, and collaboration of young people. This year, the 11th NSC had nine committees, and our topics were diverse, including academic research, engineering, aerospace, aviation, environmental protection, sustainability, women's rights, innovative technologies, artificial intelligence, and future innovation trends. In each committee, 15-20 young people held discussions on selected topics, analyzed problems, and developed solutions. This year, with my Co-Head Organizer, Vusal Baghirli, we decided to name the theme of the session "Boundless Skies, Digital Horizons" to increase the impact of engineering and technological solutions by youth in Europe and Azerbaijan. We expect a skyrocketing in the trends of Aerospace, AI, Innovations, and Digitalization in every field.”
“The first day was dedicated to “team building” activities. The second and third days were spent on committee work and preparing the resolution. On the fourth and fifth days, the resolutions were presented, discussed, and adopted by vote in the General Assembly,” Yusuf Karimli noted.
“The adopted resolutions are sent to the European Youth Parliament Headquarters in Berlin, Germany. Then, the promotion of these proposals at the European Commission and the European Union level is considered,” Karimli added.
Emphasizing the international opportunities for the participants, Yusuf Karimli said: "Within the framework of the event, the jury team selects young people with high leadership, communication, problem-solving, research, and adaptation skills from among the participants. They get the opportunity to represent Azerbaijan at international sessions held in various European countries. For example, this year one of such sessions will be held in Malaga, Spain, and next year in Pordenone, Italy.”
“Our activities are extensive. School sessions, university sessions, Baku city selection sessions, and our largest event - the National Selection Conference are organized annually. We also hold events in the regions, which we call "outreach sessions.” In recent years, such sessions have been held in the cities of Ganja, Gabala, and Guba. We plan to organize one in Lankaran this month. We are also hoping that someday we will host such an event in Karabakh," Karimli emphasized.
11th NSC of EYP Azerbaijan was powered by Bakcell and hosted with the support of UN Azerbaijan, UN Women, UN-Habitat, Azerbaijan Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), Coca-Cola Bottlers, Azerchay, Azersun, Ushaqlarimiza Oyredek, Starbucks Azerbaijan, Dodo Pizza, Moonlight accessories, AZERTAC, AzTV, and others.
