With the support of PASHA Holding and SOCAR, the IE University Center for Leadership and Innovation is launching its operations in Azerbaijan

The "IE Hub for Leadership and Innovation"—an initiative of IE University, one of Spain’s prominent higher education institutions—has been launched in Baku. Established within the framework of a strategic partnership with PASHA Holding and SOCAR, the hub will operate with the institutional support of the Ministry of Science and Education and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Located at ADA University, the hub’s primary objectives include expanding corporate collaboration, supporting the development of human capital, fostering the application of new knowledge and ideas, and contributing to the growth of the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. While its initial focus is on Azerbaijan, the hub plans to eventually expand its scope to include collaborative opportunities across the Central Asian region.

The hub’s activities encompass three main areas:

Education and Development: This area includes the provision of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, specialized educational opportunities for executives, and training programs tailored to the specific needs of companies and organizations. A key initiative within this domain is the "Azerbaijan Global MBA" (AZEMBA) program.

Research and innovation: This area entails conducting research on topics such as entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and regional competitiveness, as well as studying practical case studies and expanding international knowledge exchange. These activities will support more informed business decision-making and the application of advanced practices within the local environment.

Creation of new businesses: This area will focus on the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and new business models. Startups, investors, and institutional partners will be connected to IE University’s international innovation network, fostering a collaborative environment that supports the transformation of promising ideas into business opportunities.

Jalal Gasimov, CEO of PASHA Holding, who attended the center’s opening ceremony, emphasized the importance of human capital development, exchange of knowledge and experience, and promotion of an innovative mindset for long-term economic growth and competitiveness. "The establishment of the IE Hub in Baku is of great significance in terms of strengthening the integration of Azerbaijan’s business environment with the international education and innovation ecosystem, developing the potential of local talent, and creating new opportunities for collaboration. As PASHA Holding, we believe that sustained cooperation among the private sector, the academic community, and international partners will make a tangible contribution to our country’s development," noted Jalal Gasimov.

Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli emphasized the importance of this partnership, which facilitates the integration of international knowledge and expertise into the country, strengthens ties between education and the business sector, and helps transform new ideas into business initiatives. It was noted that the center will support the application of international educational practices in Azerbaijan, development of modern management skills, and enhancement of the innovation potential within the business sector. It was noted that the Framework Cooperation Agreement on the establishment and development of an Economic Observatory—signed between the Ministry of Economy and IE University during the event—envisages conducting joint research and economic analyses focused on economic diversification, productivity enhancement, and the strengthening of competitiveness. It also aims to foster dialogue among the public sector, business community, and academic circles. The cooperation seeks to explore international best practices, expand the exchange of knowledge regarding economic development priorities, and support the practical application of research findings.

Ziba Mustafayeva, Vice President of SOCAR, described the opening of the center as a significant milestone, emphasizing that the "IE Hub" represents more than just the creation of a new space or the implementation of a new program. The primary focus here is on people; ultimately, the most vital investment is an investment in people—in their knowledge, skills, and potential, as well as their capacity to adapt to change, shape that change, and take the lead in identifying emerging trends. "It is possible to construct buildings and acquire technologies. However, it is people who ensure that all of this functions, who turn ideas into reality, inspire others, and transform challenges into new opportunities. This is precisely where the foundation of sustainable development is laid. And this is what gives today’s event its special significance," emphasized Ziba Mustafayeva.
