The “Wiki loves Mingachevir” international camp, sponsored by Azersun Holding, has concluded

The “Wiki loves Mingachevir” international camp, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia, successfully concluded after being held from August 12 to 16, 2026, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organized by the Wikimedia Azerbaijan User Group and sponsored by Azersun Holding.

The five-day project aimed to bring together active members of the Azerbaijani Wikimedia community and regional wiki communities, promote the exchange of knowledge and experience, and contribute to further improving the content and quality of Wikipedia in the Azerbaijani language. In addition to local experts, nearly 20 experienced Wikipedians from Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan participated in the camp as part of international cooperation.

As part of the camp, Wikipedia’s 25-year development journey was reviewed, while training sessions and presentations were held on topics including the use of Wikipedia in education, working with sources and the principles of neutrality, as well as the use of artificial intelligence, gadgets, and academic information platforms in Wiki projects. Alongside regional experiences, successful modules from Wiki community projects in Turkic-speaking countries and the latest developments presented at Wikimania 2026 in Paris were also extensively discussed.

As a result of the edit-a-thons (writing marathons) held during the camp, 512 new articles were created on topics related to Azerbaijani youth, sports, and Mingachevir, while more than 4,000 edits were made.

To provide participants with meaningful leisure activities, the program included an introduction to the canoeing and rowing facilities, practical canoeing sessions, as well as the “What? Where? When?” (NHN) and “Brain Ring” intellectual competitions. At the conclusion of the event, certificates were presented to active participants. In addition, Azersun Holding presented valuable gifts to the winners of various competitions and contests held during the camp.

It should be noted that Azersun Holding works closely with Wikimedia Azerbaijan to support youth development and enrich open knowledge resources. Previously, as part of this cooperation, the “Wikisun” project resulted in nearly 5,000 articles prepared by the holding’s employees being published on Wikipedia.

The company’s sponsorship of the “Wiki loves Mingachevir” international camp represents another significant contribution to the development of the digital knowledge base in the Azerbaijani language.
