"1 book, 1 smile" – A social initiative from SAĞLAM AİLƏ Medical Center

To mark International Book Reading Day on September 6, the "SAĞLAM AİLƏ" Medical Center—an organization that places great importance on corporate social responsibility—conducted a donation campaign titled "1 book, 1 smile" for children requiring special care and attention.

As part of the campaign, a team led by the Medical Center’s Executive Director, Vadiya Alakbarzadeh, visited the Children's Shelter and Reintegration Center, which operates under the "Azerbaijan Children" Public Union.

The initiative aimed to foster an interest in reading among the children living in the shelter by gifting them books, contribute to the productive use of their leisure time, and celebrate International Book Reading Day with them.

During the visit, the Center’s Director, Kamala Aghazadeh, introduced the guests to the shelter's operations and provided detailed information about the facilities available to the children, as well as the measures taken to support their education, social development, and reintegration into society.

The work being done for the children's social protection and development left a positive impression on the guests as they toured the shelter.

Afterwards, a meeting with the children was held in the Center's assembly hall. At the meeting, K. Aghazadeh expressed gratitude for the attention and support shown on a day of such special significance for the children; she spoke with sensitivity about the life stories of the shelter's residents, their resilience and patience in facing hardships, and the successes they have achieved.

Noting that the "1 book, 1 smile" initiative is a significant expression of the attention paid to the children's future, education, and development, the shelter's director said: "Today is a truly memorable and delightful day for us. We were very pleased that the management and staff of the "SAĞLAM AİLƏ" Medical Center visited our children, spent time with them, and emphasized the value of books. Every book presented to the children today is, in fact, a valuable contribution to their future. We believe these books will mark the beginning of new knowledge, new dreams, and new successes for the children."

For her part, Vadiya Alakbarzadeh stated that the attention and care shown toward the children's future is not only a key aspect of the state's social policy but also a responsibility shared by all members of society. According to her, ensuring the comprehensive development of children, fostering their interest in education and reading, and extending care and attention to those in need of social protection are among the vital tasks facing society. In a country where the protection of children's rights is a matter of great importance, such initiatives serve to further strengthen the values of social solidarity, benevolence, and compassion.

"One of the key pillars of the social policy implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev is the protection of children's rights and interests and the assurance of decent living conditions for them. Furthermore, the special attention and care shown to children by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, along with the numerous social and humanitarian initiatives she has spearheaded in this area, make a significant contribution to reinforcing the values of benevolence, compassion, and social solidarity within our society," the executive director emphasized.

She also noted that, for organizations operating in the healthcare sector, the concept of social responsibility extends beyond the mere provision of medical services. Showing care and attention to individuals in need—particularly children belonging to socially vulnerable groups—and contributing to their social well-being and development is a vital component of corporate values.

"The Center’s leadership believes that the responsibility of healthcare institutions toward society extends beyond protecting public health to include supporting the creation of a healthy social environment. This approach is reflected in the social projects and initiatives we undertake," stated Vadiya Alakbarzadeh.

The event concluded with a heartfelt exchange of views with the shelter’s residents—children who have faced life's hardships at an early age and learned the meaning of resilience and patience. Their wishes and aspirations were heard, gifts were presented to them, and commemorative photos were taken.

One of the most memorable and touching moments of the event was the inclusion of sincere, handwritten notes from the Center’s staff inside each gifted book. May these small notes become cherished memories, messages of genuine love, and beacons of hope that inspire confidence in the future for these children!
