From the journey to becoming a university student to scholarship support – “OBA” stands by its employees' children on their educational path
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the "OBA" supermarket chain continues to support education, youth development, and expansion of future opportunities for young people—key pillars of its social responsibility strategy. One of the company's initiatives in this area involves supporting young people in their preparation for higher education through a partnership with the "Gələcəyini Qur!" ("Build Your Future!") organization.
As part of the broader educational social initiatives undertaken by the "Veysəloğlu" Group of Companies, the Group’s "OBA" supermarket chain collaborates with the "Gələcəyini Qur!" organization. Under this project, support is provided for university preparation to the children of employees who successfully pass the selection process, thereby contributing to expanded opportunities for their higher education.
For the 2024–2026 academic period, a total of nine children of employees have benefited from the "Gələcəyini Qur!" program. The young people supported by the program have been admitted to various universities and fields of study, embarking on a new chapter in their educational journeys. Continuing a tradition, the management of "OBA" held a meeting this year with project participants who successfully gained university admission, as well as their parents. The meeting was attended by Natavan Ibrahimova, Chairperson of the Board of "OBA" market chain, and Maqsud Orucov, Board Member and Head of the Human Resources and Support Services Directorate.
Congratulating the young people on their achievements, Natavan Ibrahimova spoke about the significance of the "Gələcəyini Qur!" initiative and the importance the company places on human capital development. During the meeting, views were exchanged regarding the young people's future plans, chosen majors, and educational goals.
To acknowledge the success of these new university students and support their educational journey in the upcoming academic year, the company presented them with tablets to assist them as they take their first steps into university life.
"OBA’s" educational activities are not limited to its partnership with the "Gələcəyini Qur!" project. To date, 154 students have benefited from the company's "Student Scholarship Program," one of its long-term initiatives. Of these individuals, 87 were enrolled in the monthly scholarship program, while 67 received one-time educational support.
The scholarship mechanism is structured based on students' academic performance. Under the program, students meeting the relevant criteria receive monthly stipends of 100 or 200 AZN, while those receiving one-time support are awarded 200 or 300 AZN.
The program's scope is not limited to domestic higher education institutions. The company also provides support—based on established criteria—to the children of employees who have secured admission to higher education institutions both in Azerbaijan and abroad. To date, young people benefiting from these programs have enrolled in various fields of study at institutions such as Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Baku Engineering University, and the Türkiye-Azerbaijan University, as well as numerous renowned universities worldwide.
The company’s support for youth education will continue in the upcoming academic year. Currently, the selection process for the "Gələcəyini Qur!" project for the 2026–2027 academic year is underway. Plans are in place to support the university preparation of employees' children who successfully pass the relevant selection stages.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the "OBA" supermarket chain has grown into a large team comprising over 12,000 employees. In addition to contributing to increased employment in the country, the company supports economic development by fulfilling its tax obligations. Investing in human capital is a key pillar of "OBA’s" sustainable development strategy. Education-focused projects serve as a vital component of this approach, aiming to generate long-term social impact.
