A young Azerbaijani driver is conquering Formula 4, but he needs financial support
16-year-old Azerbaijani racing driver Davin Jafarov has taken another significant step in his career by successfully completing a second test run in a Formula 4 car at the world-renowned Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal.
Following a successful stint in karting, Davin has moved to the next stage of his professional career: competing in single-seater formula cars. The tests in Portimão provided the young driver with a crucial opportunity to adapt to the highly competitive Formula 4 environment and gain further experience handling a formula race car.
Over the course of the test weekend, Davin shared the track with representatives and drivers associated with major global motorsport brands such as McLaren, Mercedes, and Aston Martin. On one of Europe's most challenging and demanding circuits, he gained valuable experience and demonstrated his speed and potential.
Each day consisted of five intensive test sessions. This allowed Davin to work closely with engineers, refine his driving style, and gain a deeper understanding of the Formula 4 car's capabilities and handling characteristics.
Despite challenging conditions and several incidents involving other drivers during the sessions, Davin completed all his runs without a single crash. This served as further proof of his discipline, focus, and mature approach to driving.
The young Azerbaijani driver's performance also caught the attention of various team representatives and engineers. Specialists present at the tests took note of his results and his confident performance on track alongside international drivers.
Despite the progress made, Davin will unfortunately be unable to participate in the upcoming final stage of the FWS (Formula Winter Series), which is set to take place at renowned European circuits such as Estoril, Jerez, Barcelona, Valencia, the Nürburgring, and Portimão. The primary obstacle is the current lack of sufficient sponsorship funding required to compete at such a high level. To date, Davin has received official offers from three Formula 4 teams—based in Italy, Germany, and the Czechia. However, without the necessary financial backing, he is unable to select a team and sign a contract at this stage.
Securing partners and sponsors willing to support the young Azerbaijani driver on the international stage remains the decisive factor for the further development of Davin’s career and his transition to a full-scale Formula 4 racing program.
Nevertheless, Davin continues his preparations with total dedication. He is currently working hard on professional racing simulator training, as well as physical and mental conditioning—key components in the preparation of a modern professional race car driver.
The young Azerbaijani driver’s main long-term goal remains unchanged: to represent Azerbaijan with distinction at the highest levels of global motorsport.
Davin Jafarov’s journey in formula racing is just beginning. He is confident that, with the necessary support and opportunities, he will be able to compete regularly in international events over the coming years and gradually advance to the global stage of professional motorsport.
